There has been a plethora of Gin creations over the last year or so including rhubarb as one of their major stars, and why not, this classic British ingredient has lent itself brilliantly to working in Gin.
So, what options are there?
The ever popular Whitley Neill Rhubarb & Ginger Gin has certainly stormed the ranks, a stand out purple bottle making it easily spotted. A subtle rhubarb flavour with hints of orange, some difference in opinion as to the level of ginger coming through - probably down to taste buds!
A newcomer based on Grandad's allotment rhubarb recipe is Grandad's Allotment Rhubarb Gin, this comes from the Exeter Gin team and has a fresh fruity element you would expect.
St. Giles Gin have this year launched their Raspberry, Rhubarb & Ginger Gin, with an explosion of flavours this Gin is designed to be drunk neat but could also be enjoyed with indian tonic and a raspberry garnish.
With many fans and a perfect summer tipple Tarquin's Rhubarb & Raspberry Cornish Gin tends to be favoured by those preferring a slightly sweeter edge, to be honest it works any time of year, and the new bottles are great!
Another Cornish Rhubarb Gin, well we do have the climate (!), is Jynerva Rhubarb & Vanilla Cornish Gin from the Atlantic Distillery. Slightly less sweet but still a good depth of flavour.
One of our all time favourite Rhubarb Gins is the Orkney Gin Company Rhubarb Old Tom Gin, a real depth of flavour, a gin that seems to have a 'density' to it. Delicious neat, perfect for sipping in front of a winter fire or paired with Ginger Ale and a raspberry. Delicious.
